چکیده

INTRODUCTION As the head provides a reference frame for detecting and controlling motion via the visual and vestibular systems, it is desirable to keep it stable in space. While much is known about reflex and mechanical factors, little is known about predictive control. To determine the contribution of prediction to head stability in space (HSS) we asked two question. First, is HSS better for a perturbation applied at a known rather than unknown time? Second, is predictive control, represented by muscle torque at the neck, greater for a perturbation applied at known than an unknown time?

Cortical Activity During Postural Recovery in Response to Predictable and Unpredictable Perturbations in Healthy Young and Older Adults: A Quantitative EEG Assessment

Introduction: To investigate the effects of predictable and unpredictable external perturbations on cortical activity in healthy young and older adults. Methods: Twenty healthy older and 19 healthy young adults were exposed to predictable and unpredictable external perturbations, and their cortical activity upon postural recovery was measured using a 32-channel quantitative encephalography. Th...

Comparing the Knee Joint Kinematic Parameters of Female Athletes During Sidestep Cutting Task Before and After Fatigue in Predictable and Unpredictable Settings

Objective: Anterior cruciate ligament injury is often non-traumatic and occurs in landing and cutting following an incorrect knee joint alignment. The present study aimed to compare the knee joint kinematic parameters of adolescent female athletes during sidestep cutting maneuver before and after fatigue in predictable and unpredictable settings. Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study con...

Stability Analysis and Robust PID Control of Cable Driven Robots Considering Elasticity in Cables

In this paper robust PID control of fully-constrained cable driven parallel manipulators with elastic cables is studied in detail. In dynamic analysis, it is assumed that the dominant dynamics of cable can be approximated by linear axial spring. To develop the idea of control for cable robots with elastic cables, a robust PID control for cable driven robots with ideal rigid cables is firstly de...

People with recurrent low back pain respond differently to trunk loading despite remission from symptoms.

STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional design. OBJECTIVE To compare lumbar multifidus electromyographic activity (EMG) during predictable and unpredictable trunk loading between people with and without recurrent unilateral low back pain (LBP) during symptom remission. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Unpredictable loading is a common injury mechanism for LBP. Paraspinal muscle responses to trunk loading di...
